Attaching
larger files in an email has never been much smoother. Google has now
integrated Google Drive which lets you send large file attachments of up to 10
GB
How
will it work?
The
integration is just clean and simple. To attach files in your email using
Google Drive, you just need to click the new Google Drive icon in the compose
window. You can attach files without leaving your Gmail. This feature is going
to help a lot of people who want to attach large files in the email.
If
the files that you wish to send are not shared with any of the recipients,
Gmail will automatically prompt you to do so before sending it.
Benefits
You can send files up to 10 GB in size which is almost 400 percent from the earlier attachment size of just 25 MB. The other benefit is that the user will have the up-to-date version of the file as the file you are attaching will not be the static attachments, just through the basic feature of Google Drive
Before getting started to use the new Drive integration into Gmail, keep in mind that you will have to opt-in to use the new compose window for Gmail. Also, the feature though announced is still being rolled out to various parts of the world, meaning it may take some time to see the tiny Drive icon in the Gmail Compose Window.
But Gmail is not the only service that allows larger file attachments than the traditional 25 MB size limit. Microsoft, on introducing its new service Outlook (which formerly was Hotmail) has the option to attach large files via its service SkyDrive but the limit was 300 MB. Though the 300 MB file size limit is also enough for an average person who doesn’t have many sizes of attachments to send. So, don’t get surprised if Microsoft announces a larger file size in the attachments for email.
